Knowing who should be involved in the appraisal process is key to making sure each review is done by the right person. Assigning the correct reviewer helps maintain the integrity of the appraisal and ensures that feedback is both relevant and meaningful.
In the Appraisal Module, there are four distinct roles: Self, Manager, Upward, and Peers.
Self
When you select employees in the 'Self' section of the Appraisal Module, those employees will be added to a list of people who need to complete a self-assessment. This means they will be responsible for evaluating their own performance as part of the appraisal process.
Self-assessment allows employees to reflect on their achievements, challenges, and areas for improvement, providing valuable input for their overall performance review.
Managers
Managers are the supervisors of the employees selected in the list. These managers are responsible for reviewing their direct reports based on their knowledge and interactions with them. Supervisors/ Managers provide critical feedback on the employee's performance, helping to ensure that the appraisal reflects a well-rounded perspective from someone who oversees their work closely.
Upward
An Upward Reviewer is typically a team member or subordinate who will provide feedback on their manager / supervisor. This role empowers employees to share valuable perspectives on the leadership and management styles of their supervisors. By including an upward review, organizations can gain a more comprehensive understanding of a manager's effectiveness, communication skills, and overall impact on their team, as seen from the perspective of those they lead.
Peers
Peer Reviewers are colleagues at the same or similar level within the organization who are selected to provide feedback on an employee’s performance. These peers work alongside the employee and often have a unique perspective on their day-to-day contributions, teamwork, and collaboration skills. By including Peer Reviewers in the appraisal, you can gather insights on how the employee interacts with their colleagues, how they contribute to team efforts, and how they are perceived in their work environment. This peer feedback is valuable in providing a well-rounded evaluation, complementing the perspectives of self, managers, and upward reviewers.
In summary, you can choose from four distinct appraisal roles: Self, Manager, Upward, and Peer. Each role plays a vital part in ensuring a well-rounded and fair evaluation process
