If your organisation spans multiple linked company entities in JustLogin, you can assign reviewers from a sister company to participate in your appraisal review cycles β no extra subscriptions or special configuration beyond what you may already have in place. This article explains how the feature works, how to set it up, and what to expect for both admins and reviewers.
How It Works
The cross-company reviewer capability is a natural extension of the Shared Directory feature. When two companies are linked via Shared Directory, their employee directories are visible to each other within the Appraisal module. This means a manager or peer from Company B can be assigned as a reviewer for an employee in Company A's review cycle β and vice versa.
This works across all reviewer types: Manager, Indirect Manager, Peers, and Upward reviewers.
Prerequisites
Before you can assign cross-company reviewers, make sure the following are in place.
- Shared Directory must be configured. The two companies must be linked as Company Buddies in your company settings. This is the only prerequisite β there is no separate toggle or feature flag to enable.
Org chart relationships (for Manager and Indirect Manager types). If you are assigning a cross-company reviewer as a Manager or Indirect Manager, the reporting relationship should already be set up before the review cycle is run. For Peer, this can be manually assigned.
There are two ways to assign a Manager:
- Via User Admin β locate the employee and update their Manager field in their profile.
- Via People module β Organization Chart tab (under Administration) β edit reporting lines directly in the org chart view.
For Indirect Manager, this can only be assigned through User Admin: go to User Admin β Employee Details, click the name of the staff member, then navigate to the Basic Details tab to set the Indirect Manager field.
Assigning a Cross-Company Reviewer
- Go to the Appraisal module and create or open an existing review cycle.
- When assigning reviewers, open the people picker. It displays a grouped view organized by Company β Department β Employee.
- Expand the sister company's group to browse its departments and employees.
- Select the person you want to assign as a reviewer β the process is identical to picking someone from your own company.
Peer Assignments
There are two additional ways peers can be assigned across companies.
-
Excel peer import. When using the spreadsheet import to assign peers in bulk, you can include sister-company employees by name. The import validates names against the full combined directory.
-
Selected by Admin or Employees . If peer nomination is enabled on your cycle, employees will see the full cross-company directory when nominating their own peers.
The Reviewer's Experience
Cross-company reviewers do not need to do anything out of the ordinary. When they log in to their own company's JustLogin account, the review cycle automatically appears in their Appraisal dashboard alongside any cycles from their own company. They complete the review form in exactly the same way as any other reviewer.
If the cycle includes KPI approval, the cross-company manager will also see any pending employee KPI approvals in their approval queue.

Note on email invitations β Reviewers receive an email invitation when a cycle is published, as long as a work email address is saved in their profile. If a reviewer's work email is missing, they will not receive the invitation email, but they can still access the cycle directly from their Appraisal dashboard. |
Limitations to Be Aware Of
| Scenario | What Happens |
|---|---|
| Shared Directory is not set up between the two companies | Sister-company employees will not appear in any picker or import. There is no error message β they are simply not visible. |
| Reviewer has no work email on their profile | The email invitation is skipped silently. The reviewer can still access the cycle from their dashboard. |
| Cycle ownership | The review cycle belongs to one company only. A cross-company reviewer participates in that cycle β no mirrored cycle is created in the reviewer's own company. |
Permissions
No special roles or permission settings are required for a cross-company reviewer. Their ability to review is granted automatically by the cycle assignment itself, as long as the Shared Directory link is in place at the company level.
