Why do I see decimal places on the entitlement even if the user has been with the company for years?

Introduction

The purpose of this documentation is to help us understand why there are decimal values on the entitlement even if the user has been with the company for years now.

Also, this document will highlight the entitlement policy options: years of service and calendar year.

Steps

Under Justlogin Leave system, there are 2 settings: Entitlement Policy and Leave Policy.

The entitlement policy setting will determine how the system calculates the annual entitlement.

The leave policy setting will affect the leave balance as of any date.

The calculation showing decimal places will occur if the leave policy is set as any of the below:

  •  mceclip2.png

As you noticed, both options are based on Years of Service.

Example: Calculating the 2020 entitlement

Parameters

“My employee joined on 11 November 2019. My entitlement policy is based on joined date and years of service. How do I calculate his 2020 entitlement?

  • Entitlement policy: “based on joined date and years of service

Joined date: 11 November 2019

1st year entitlement: 12

2nd year entitlement: 13

mceclip3.png

2019 entitlement consists of 314 days of 1st-year entitlement and 51 days of 2nd-year entitlement.

Entitlement from 01 Jan 2020  to 10 Nov 2020 (314 days) = (314 days/365 days) x 12 = 1032328…

Entitlement from 11 Nov 2020 to 31 Dec 2020 (51 days) = (51 days/365 days) x 13 = 1.81543…

Therefore, 2019 entitlement = 10.32328… + 1.81543…  = 12.14 (corrected to 2 decimal places

  • Entitlement policy is “based on joined date and calendar year

The annual entitlement for the period from the joined date to the end of the year is the full entitlement of the first calendar year. The annual entitlement for subsequent years will be the full entitlement of the subsequent calendar year.

Example: Calculating the 2020 Entitlement

Parameters

“My employee joined on 01 October 2019. My entitlement policy is based on joined date and calendar year. How do I calculate his 2020 entitlement?”

Entitlement policy: “based on joined date and calendar year”

Joined date: 01 October 2019

1st-year entitlement: 12

2nd-year entitlement: 13

Calculation:

mceclip4.png

2019 entitlement is full-year entitlement from 1st-year entitlement regardless of the joined date, which is 12 days. 2020 entitlement is full-year entitlement from 2nd-year entitlement, which is 13 days.
